Grapplethon

About Project

Grapplethon is a charity grappling and sparring event bringing together coaches, athletes, and the wider martial arts community for a day of skill, endurance, and generosity. Across two packed events, I documented seminars from experienced coaches, live sparring rounds, prize presentations, awards, and the quieter candid moments between more than 250 participants — creating a full visual story of the atmosphere, movement, and purpose behind the event.

Lessons on the Mat

The seminars brought together coaches and students in moments of focus, discipline, and shared learning. I highlighted the details that make these sessions powerful: a coach adjusting a grip, a student listening closely, bodies gathered around the mat, and the quiet intensity of knowledge being passed from one generation of grapplers to the next.

Pressure and Flow

The sparring rounds carried the energy of the day — fast exchanges, controlled pressure, bursts of movement, and moments of respect between athletes. My focus was on capturing both the physicality and rhythm of grappling: the grip fights, scrambles, takedowns, escapes, and the determination visible in every round.

Victories Between Rounds

Beyond the action, Grapplethon was filled with emotion: awards, prizes, laughter, exhaustion, encouragement, and candid moments between teammates and coaches. I documented the human side of the event, from proud celebrations to quiet conversations, showing the community spirit that made the day more than just a competition.
